Duty Calls at Goodwill House by Fenella J Miller

Excellent story set in England about couples going through the war, each serving in their own way. Goodwill House is a Lords house, where they are going through many changes as well.  The war affects each of them strongly. The girls are friends and or acquaintances at some points in time. Two of the guys are best friends and close to two of the girls who are best friends. Things happen that each of them has to struggle through. These four are also all enlisted. It's a pretty in-depth story of them all, and this is just part of an ongoing tale. Makes you want to read the next one right away.

Garden of Fairytale Animals by Kanoko Egusa

A Curious Collection of Creatures to Color - an excellent description! What a lovely book! Even if you don't like to color this is a beautiful collection of drawings. But if you do like to color it's irresistible. Fantastic detail. Some of the intricate line art designs go across two pages. What a great gift this would be. Hours of peaceful fun getting lost in the pages. Kanoko offers additional coloring books - looks like they're all gems.

Gigi and Nate

Just watching the trailer brought tears to my eyes. Very touching, heart wrenching, heart melting story.

Nate Gibson’s life is turned upside down after he suffers a near-fatal illness and is left a quadriplegic. Moving forward seems impossible until he meets his unlikely service animal, Gigi – a curious and intelligent capuchin monkey – who helps Nate find what he needs most: Hope.

The Case for Heaven by Lee Strobel

I would very much like to be able to recommend this, especially for non-believers. There are some really moving pieces, especially about near-death experiences of both heaven and hell. Lee's story and the Christian message are absolutely excellent, but this movie itself we found to be long, drawn out and somewhat disjointed. We were quite disappointed in the way that it was made, but the message is spot on. If you have the time and can wade through it, the teaching points are well worth it.

She had never had a loving relationship though and wasn't sure that Jory's love would last once he was around her more...so she chickened out and didn't show up when she was supposed to run off with him. Instead, she went back home to her fancy life without love, agreeing to marry two others but running away from the wedding each time. After the second one, she ran away from home to Jory's hometown to see if he had married yet. Her family shunned her, so she was without money had to work in a saloon for one of Jory's many cousins to earn her room and board. The cousins were hard on her, but she was determined, working hard at all tasks, and little by little they all loved her and rooted for her to reunite with Jory. But Jory was leery of her...and so the story is told. Excellent, heartwarming read with a bunch of people who are very close to one another and very endearing. Loved it!

Answering Liberty's Call by Tracy Lawson

Adapted from the writings of Jeremiah Asbury Stone, Benjamin and Anna’s third son, and other historical records.

Interesting Historical fiction based on a true story in 1778. Anna Stone of Virginia heard about her brothers and husband where they were stationed at Valley Forge PA - the horrible conditions, sickness, lack of food and clothing. She is a healer and feels she can take some needed provisions and help to them. She had a sturdy horse and a plan where to stay, some with relatives as she went. It was still dangerous to travel alone, especially as a woman. She ended up wearing some of her husband's clothes part of the way. When staying at a relative's house she met one of Washington's men and was asked to deliver an important message to the General personally, believing she would be less likely to be perceived as a messenger. She was then in even more danger than before. It's an interesting recount of what happened, well told, bringing the people to life. The experience brings Anna a new sense of liberty and freedom in her own life, and a great sense of accomplishment. Gives you a glimpse into people's lives as our country was fighting for its liberty and independence from England, the contrast of the well off and poor, evil and good people, and political corruption even in the earliest days of our country, some insight as to why our declaration of independence and early laws were written as they were. And the bravery of people who fought for our right to freedom. They should not be forgotten or taken for granted.
