Hearts of Steel by Elizabeth Camden

Set aside extra time to read this book because it's hard to put it down. A return to the Blackstone series, featuring Liam. Who doesn't love a strong, handsome Irishman with a good heart? He was kidnapped from the wealthy family when very young and later learned who he was but has had to fight many things to keep going. Maggie and her uncle built a business from the ground up. Liam and Maggie both experienced trauma in their lives but became more resilient for having survived it. Both lived in poverty and worked hard to overcome it, each getting down and dirty in their business to accomplish their goals. They're very well matched. Christian strength. This will take your emotions through the ringer, but you'll love it.

The Confession Musical Movie

Based on the book by Beverly Lewis - ONLY IN MOVIE THEATERS FEBRUARY 20, 2023

I read the book - it was very good. With this team of actors it looks like it was really well done.

THE CONFESSION MUSICAL was adapted for the stage by Emmy-Nominated screenwriter Martha Bolton. The musical follows the story of Katie Lapp, a young Amish girl who discovers that her parents have been keeping a deep secret...that she is adopted. Katie decides to find her birth mother, defying the rules of her Amish village and risking a shunning. Meanwhile, Laura Mayfield, her wealthy birth mother who is battling an illness that might take her life, began searching for her long-lost daughter. Secretly plotting against Laura is her gold-digging husband Dylan (John Schneider). Dylan knows that if Katie is found, he will no longer inherit Laura’s fortune. With the help and prayers of her Christian housekeeper (Chonda Pierce), Laura hopes to foil Dylan’s plan and be reunited with her daughter.

While the story is dramatic, writer Martha Bolton sprinkles in humor, mostly from award-winning comedian Chonda Pierce as the maid and internationally renowned British comedian Colin Hearn as the English Butler. The music is powerful under the direction of multiple Grammy nominated Dan Posthuma and songwriter Wally Nason. The screen is filled with spectacular visuals using twenty actors and dancers and one of the largest LED screens in the country.

Lacy by Sharon Srock

The characters are all pretty comfortable, until they're not. There's a plot twist that I didn't see coming, then another. But it all pulls together perfectly. Completely got lost in it and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen. Excellent lessons of more than one kind, and strengthening faith. Excellent read.

Marmee by Sarah Miller

When reading Little Women or watching the movie, I never really gave much thought to the mother and how she grew up, although I remember finding her puzzling for fleeting moments. This tells her story, faithfully following the beloved classic, explaining some things and uncovering others. Margaret "Marmee" March was quite the interesting forward-thinking woman, and very strong. This is based on Louisa May Alcott's own family. Great read, nice to revisit a favorite classic, realize little things I had forgotten and discover things I didn't know.

The Apostle's Sister by Angela Hunt

Interesting fictional story about the Apostle Paul's sister and their family. Aya changes and grows, learning as she ages, she's always in Paul's shadow. Women were much more restricted at that time, much of what they did or could do was limited by family and Jewish Law. She later finds that there has been a purpose to her paths that could only be made by God. Well told, very realistic, keeping to bible facts. An interesting insight into Paul's life and upbringing.

Five and Dime Christmas by Susanne Dietze; Patty Smith Hall; Cynthia Hickey; Christina Lorenzen

Four Historical Novellas
1881 Scranton PA isn't far from where we live. I miss the old Woolworths store we had in our town. Always a great place to be. They always had what you needed. This book is great to read, with these authors it could be nothing less. Sweet Christian romances for four of the girls who work at the store, all with different circumstances and struggles, and four perfectly unique men who were meant to make their lives better. Easy to love each of them.
