The Confession Musical Movie

Based on the book by Beverly Lewis - ONLY IN MOVIE THEATERS FEBRUARY 20, 2023

I read the book - it was very good. With this team of actors it looks like it was really well done.

THE CONFESSION MUSICAL was adapted for the stage by Emmy-Nominated screenwriter Martha Bolton. The musical follows the story of Katie Lapp, a young Amish girl who discovers that her parents have been keeping a deep secret...that she is adopted. Katie decides to find her birth mother, defying the rules of her Amish village and risking a shunning. Meanwhile, Laura Mayfield, her wealthy birth mother who is battling an illness that might take her life, began searching for her long-lost daughter. Secretly plotting against Laura is her gold-digging husband Dylan (John Schneider). Dylan knows that if Katie is found, he will no longer inherit Laura’s fortune. With the help and prayers of her Christian housekeeper (Chonda Pierce), Laura hopes to foil Dylan’s plan and be reunited with her daughter.

While the story is dramatic, writer Martha Bolton sprinkles in humor, mostly from award-winning comedian Chonda Pierce as the maid and internationally renowned British comedian Colin Hearn as the English Butler. The music is powerful under the direction of multiple Grammy nominated Dan Posthuma and songwriter Wally Nason. The screen is filled with spectacular visuals using twenty actors and dancers and one of the largest LED screens in the country.

The Secret Keepers of Old Depot Grocery by Amanda Cox

One wrong decision...for Sarah, her mother and her Grandmother. And the secrets they all kept. The Old Depot Grocery is a way of life for each of them as they grow up. The story time slips from the Vietnam war era to present day and through the years between, revealing what each of the women are holding in their hearts and minds. Interesting the way it unfolds. Full of heartache and misunderstanding, but also love. A messy sort of family. Sarah, widowed, has come back to her family and the store, trying to hold on to what is good. The store is failing though. And there are lots of layers to the relationships there. Good read.

Step into True Colors -- a new series of Historical Stories of Romance and American Crime

Very well told story of the kidnapping of a young child and an illegal adoption ring 1933 Memphis. Most incredible is that it's an illustration based on true happenings. This is the story of one young mother and her search for her daughter throughout the intense corruption of the city. Widowed in Depression era Memphis during 1932 and no family to help her, Cecile Dowd is having a difficult providing for her three-year-old daughter and herself. Since she is a single mother, what she has is precious, what she doesn't have is too far away from her reach. Trusting a neighbor while she is looking for work and food turns out to be a mistake. She returns to find her daughter has been taken. An organization called Memphis Tennessee Children’s Home Society is at the root of over 5,000 kidnappings from 1924-1950, with deep roots in the city government. Some who adopted were celebrities. Cecile is able to get help from a young lawyer, but nothing is easy. Riveting. Heart wrenching. Grief and love on both sides of these adoptions.  Liz Tolsma never fails!

She's a daughter of the American Revolution, but her Father is on the wrong side and has returned to Scotland. Her brother fought alongside their neighbor, the General, but hasn't returned even though the General has. Sophie's seen the General's lovely little daughter and instantly made friends. She had been there at her birth, as her mother was the midwife and she was there to help. But the former Mistress has passed away now and the little girl is so lonely. Sophie's not popular in the town because of her Father - people don't seem to regard her brother's service. Their Estate is falling further into disrepair and they've gone too much without because the townspeople won't allow her to sell or trade.

Seamus, despite being a returning war hero, has a legal battle to keep his daughter because his departed wife left her with relatives while he was at war. He needs a wife to help make his case stronger. He's felt a strong pull to Sophie, so she seems a good choice.

"If she wed Seamus, she must keep her love hidden at all times." (Sophie)

This is so well written and the characters became so beloved that I found myself thinking about them long after I put the book down each time - wondering what they would be doing next - imagining my own scenarios.  Another Laura Frantz book that you just don't want to end. There's lots to keep you constantly entertained, from running the Estate to kidnapping and mystery - and lots to pull on your heartstrings. Prepare yourself because you won't want to put this book down!

From the book:
There can be only one mistress of Tall Acre . . .

The American Revolution is finally over, and Sophie Menzies is starved for good news. When her nearest neighbor, General Seamus Ogilvy, finally comes home to Tall Acre, she hopes it is a sign of better days to come. But the general is now a widower with a small daughter in desperate need of a mother. Nearly destitute, Sophie agrees to marry Seamus and become the mistress of Tall Acre in what seems a safe, sensible arrangement. But when a woman from the general's past returns without warning, the ties that bind this fledgling family together will be strained to the utmost. When all is said and done, who will be the rightful mistress of Tall Acre?

Triumph and tragedy, loyalty and betrayal--you will find it all in the rich pages of this newest novel from the talented pen of Laura Frantz.
