Unyielding Hope by Janette Oke; Laurel Oke Logan

A story of Home Children who were sent from England to Canada. Lillian has lost her mother and is about to travel overseas with her adopted father when she is made aware of her birth parents' estate in the US and that her sister had actually survived. She stays behind determined to find her sister. Even though others had already tried to find her sister, Lillian's insight makes it possible. When she finds Grace, she learns that she has been caring for outcasts from an orphanage and then becomes involved herself.  A very interesting story of love in a family of a different kind. It brings to life what was possible in the lives of children who were taken away, with no control, from their country and given away, often with no follow up.
It takes special people to be foster her parents. I am acquainted with a young woman who has such a heart for children. I have the utmost respect for her and her family, and the difficulties they have been though. And that's without changing countries. This book has beautiful and special characters to get to know. God's lessons and wisdom unfold. I can't wait until the next book!

The Last Man At The Inn by R. William Bennett

One man's quest to believe.

This brings alive the story of Jesus, from His birth to crucifixion, through the eyes of a man named Simon.  Simon was in Bethlehem when Jesus was born, in fact he was the reason that there was no room at the in, because he didn't give up his place for the young couple and they were forced to take shelter in a stable. After hearing about Jesus birth there that night, he Simon felt bad about not giving up his room. Simon also struggled with all that he learned of Jesus through the years, listening but not joining in with those who taught about Jesus, including Simon's own sons. But in the end he finally came around and truly became part of the story of Jesus - a time at His crucifixion that will be remembered through the ages. Well written story of a real human, struggling to understand what Jesus, His life and teachings meant to him. Excellent read - well worth your time.

The Time of Jacob's Trouble by Donna VanLiere

Set in New York and Israel at the time of the Rapture, seen from the eyes of a few different people who were not taken. There is much confusion as people try to sort out what has happened. One of the characters is in a cemetery and sees the graves around him burst open, the person being buried disappears. Others have people they know, including some family, disappear. These people had tried to give them the message that Jesus would be coming, but they didn't believe. Now they can see they were being told the truth. Two of the men are Jews and are visited by witnesses and told they are chosen as part of the 144,000 messianic Jews.  Interesting story that is excellent at showing prophesy.  I ate this right up, greatly looking forward to picking it up again each time. The story is a quick read, the rest of the book is very detailed information with scripture that explains how the Bible tells the prophecy in Revelations and many other passages. A fabulous manual for now and for those who will be left behind. I'm ready! Keep looking up, the time is close. It could happen at any time! Donna shows how many of today's world events fit right into the end times prophecies. Looking forward to future stories!

Plant Lady Embroidery by Applemints

300 Botanical Embroidery Motifs & Designs to Stitch

Lovely book! I love flowers but haven't done embroidery in years. As it says, there are 300 motifs and designs in this book. I can't pick a favorite. First I saw the violets (!), then the lily of the valley, then little wreaths and as I kept going I realized that all of these designs suit me. What I found unique were the succulents and cacti. The flowers are in many different categories. There are color pictures of the finished work, then patterns to trace and detailed instructions on how to do the stitches. Now I have to think of where I'll put them. Oh yeah, there are inspirations for that in the book too. This is a good book for beginners or experienced embroidery artists.

The Thief of Lanwyn Manor

Cornwall, 1818
Julia left home to go to her cousin who is lying in and very ill. This was a new manor, one that her Uncle had just acquired. Of the top society, it would be to her benefit to go. However underlying secrets on her side as well as her Uncle's side made things not quite what they seemed. The brothers next door are twins who wish to expand their wealth by convincing Julia's Uncle to let them partner in running his mine as well as their own. The welfare of the entire town is involved, and they have strong feelings on it, especially since her Uncle had closed his mine down. As soon as she enters the town Julia is threatened, and the danger and mysteries increase steadily. Intriguing story that makes it hard to put down. Nothing is obvious. Excellent read, quite real and a pleasure for those who enjoy this time and place.

A Defense of Honor by Kristi Ann Hunter

Set in 1816 England. Christian Historical Romance

Characters who are people you would like to know. This held my interest right from the beginning. Graham (Lord Wharton) is at a party for London's society when he spies a girl behind some of the potted shrubbery. Her hand darts out to grab some of the pastry off the tray of a passing servant. Hooked!
