The Legacy of Longdale Manor by Carrie Turansky

I liked the way the author worded it: "comfort and wisdom can be passed on to those the Lord brings into our lives, and fatherhood, forgiveness, and holding on to your faith through painful times are lessons throughout this great story." Nicely transitions through the timeslips between great-great grandmother and daughter. They have a lot in common. Both of their journeys are heartfelt and touching. Great read!

I received this book free from the author, publisher and NetGalley book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

The Thief of Lanwyn Manor

Cornwall, 1818
Julia left home to go to her cousin who is lying in and very ill. This was a new manor, one that her Uncle had just acquired. Of the top society, it would be to her benefit to go. However underlying secrets on her side as well as her Uncle's side made things not quite what they seemed. The brothers next door are twins who wish to expand their wealth by convincing Julia's Uncle to let them partner in running his mine as well as their own. The welfare of the entire town is involved, and they have strong feelings on it, especially since her Uncle had closed his mine down. As soon as she enters the town Julia is threatened, and the danger and mysteries increase steadily. Intriguing story that makes it hard to put down. Nothing is obvious. Excellent read, quite real and a pleasure for those who enjoy this time and place.

Oh to see this on the silver screen! Movies today aren't what they used to be, so this would be an excellent comeback. A full, rich story about poised Isadora, a society girl who ran away to be a housekeeper when her life was put in danger. Since it was the most unexpected thing for her to do, she should have been safe. But then she was expecting a Manor to run, not a farm, and of course she didn't really seem at first to fit in. I love the tomboy skills she has that are allowed to shine. Ian is a social climber looking to increase his fortune after being raised at Glory Manor. He was not expecting quite the disruptions that kept him in the country running the farm and out of the city where his best connections would be. In typical Jen Turano style, it's filled to the top with hilarious, rolling misevents and tender loving moments. Deeply satisfying to the end, which you won't want to happen. Don't you just love the cover? Honestly I think they need to allow 10 stars for some books.
I've said it before: Cheer up! Read a Jen Turano book!
