All Through the Night by Tara Johnson

Cadence and Joshua each have reason to doubt their self worth based on things they had been told during their lives. But each was strong and fought to prove them wrong. Set during the civil war, she has a beautiful voice that helped the soldiers and she acted as a nurse even though she was forbidden to. He as a doctor. He has another secret life, which she stumbles upon. Their struggles with each other keep it entertaining, but each also has a strong faith and dedication to helping others. Excellent read, loosely based on a true person from that time. Keeps you engaged to the end.

Shadows of the White City by Jocelyn Green

Starting in 1890 Chicago, but mostly contained in 1893, Sylvie saves Rose from going into an orphanage that couldn't care for so many children, just as her father was bringing her there. Sylvie took Rose in and raised her like a daughter. Sylvie owned a bookstore and lived above it, also renting out rooms. Kristof and his brother, professional violinists, live in one the rooms. Things transpire that Sylvie and Kristof get closer as they both have to live with letting their loved ones go. One of those books you look forward to picking up again. Never a dull moment. This was also when the Worlds Fair was held in Chicago and has lots of descriptions of the wonders that were to be seen. Excellent read!

What a breath of fresh air.
I love historical fiction, being transported through a character's eyes to different places and times. Quite often those places are quite significant. This surely is. This is a Hebrew girl, from the time when they had just come out of Egypt (the last 10 of the 40 years) and they entered Jericho, then settling in the area that was previously occupied, and rebuilding. Fascinating place and time to be brought to! An interesting situation the girl is in – she was kidnapped and held, branded with the symbol of a priestess on her face, then rescued and returned to her people. She is ridiculed for the brand and covers her head and face with a veil. Like so many of us, she believes those who belittle her and further imprisons herself.  The adventures that happen teach her about her self-worth as well as bring her closer to the one that God chose for her.

Wealth. Society. Greed. Taylor wanted to get away from them and her family. She had grown up camping and hiking with her father, brother and his friend. A girl after my own heart, she went to college and earned a degree in Botany, then went to work at Yellowstone park as a guide. After her father died, her mother pushed her to marry her brother's friend to unite their fortunes. Since she'd learned the true nature of the man, and her mother was unrelentless, Tylor jumped on an opportunity to go to Curry, Alaska to work. She is perfectly suited for the job, but they were expecting a man. If you read the previous book, you're familiar with the family of the Curry Hotel. You wouldn't need to read the other book first, but you'd be glad that you did. They're a group of special people, centered in their faith in God and Jesus in their lives. A great story of self discovery and forgiveness.

A heartwarming Christian Historical Romance! This is definitely a good one to add to your reading list. You'll quickly find all of the characters endearing, and feel right at home with them in 1866 Montana, where Patience has inherited a boardinghouse from her Grandmother. Patience has an early run in with the sheriff. Her struggles with him and her own opinion of herself are endearing. She learns Christian based lessons about herself and helps others to learn and grow, making the town a better place and enriching the lives of others she's touched.. Even her mother is changed throughout the story. You'll also find a murder mystery and other romances entwined. Maggie Brendan is a new author to me - I'll be sure to read any other books she's written! I'm a fan. There's an excerpt from the next book at the end of this one - I'm hooked - can't wait till it comes out.

A previous book written by Maggie is free on Amazon (double check before buying).
