Whispers on the Tide (Dawn of Alaska Book 2) by Naomi Rawlings

Takes place in the early days before Alaska became a State. Maggie is looking for her brother so that they won't lose their family land and shipbuilding business. Sasha has been his captain, but her brother is on another ship, so he offers to take her and her little brother and sister to meet him. Captain Sasha's also working to try to save the seals from extinction. They both have difficult trials to face, rough roads to walk, and learn lessons of faith and trust. Unexpected twists. Deep family ties. Wonderful love story. Very real, believable story.

About the Author
Naomi Rawlings is a USA Today bestselling author of over a dozen historical novels, including her fan favorite Eagle Harbor Series, which has sold over 450,000 copies. She lives with her husband and three children in Michigan's rugged Upper Peninsula, along the southern shore of Lake Superior where they get 200 inches of snow every year, and where people still grow their own vegetables and cut down their own firewood--just like in the historical novels she writes.

About the Book

He only offered her passage to Alaska. But they end up fighting for something bigger along the way...

Maggie McDougal is determined to save her family’s land after her parents’ sudden deaths. And if that means leaving the sandy shores of Lake Michigan and traveling across the country to Washington Territory in search of her brother so he can claim the land, then so be it. Anything is better than watching the land she loves fall into her uncle’s greedy, conniving hands.

The trouble is, when the ship that her brother works on arrives in Bellingham, her brother isn’t on it. But Captain Sacha Amos is. And when he offers to take Maggie north to Alaska where she can meet her brother on his new ship, she has little choice about saying yes.

Except Alaska doesn’t turn out quite like she thought, at least not after she meets the gruff captain’s large, sprawling, family. A family that happens to include one sister who’s a doctor, another who’s a lawyer, and two half siblings that the family loves against all odds.

Or after she discovers the secret study that a scientist is conducting aboard Sacha’s ship—one that just might put an end to seals being illegally killed for their pelts.

But seal pelts are worth a lot of money, and if word leaks about what Sacha’s trying to do, he’s going to find himself in the crosshairs of some very powerful men.

Caught between her mission to save her family's land and the escalating tension in Alaska, Maggie soon finds herself fighting for something that’s bigger than just property or family ties. And she just might discover a new home along the way—one that offers more warmth and love than she ever imagined possible.

From a USA Today bestselling author comes a frontier family saga filled with a protector hero, forced-proximity, found family, and love that heals wounded hearts.

Remember Me by Tracie Peterson

1902. What an amazing ride of a story. Tracie is so good at drawing the pictures in her stories, and for using great lessons of faith to highlight the paths. This is another book where you feel totally invested in these people. I found myself praising God in the victories! When teenagers, Addie and Isaac met in the Yukon and promised themselves to each other. He left intending to come back, but it took years. In the meantime, the cruelty of her father and brothers changed her life. Fascinating story of strength even through abuse; what an amazing and uplifting girl. The story builds fast. It got so it was almost impossible to put down, right straight through to the end. Classic Tracie Peterson - never disappoints!

Ever Constant by Tracie Peterson; Kimberley Woodhouse

Nome Alaska 1905.  This is Whitney's story. Three beautiful, talented sisters grew up on their Granddad's ranch, each with their own unique personality. They all share a love for their family, music, animals and community. They're a very tight group.  Whitney is the oldest and has always felt she had to hold things together and take care of everyone else, especially after their mother died. They had all been through a lot of tragedy and shock, but Whitney had also been attacked by a man, leaving her more vulnerable.  When their Granddad died and she found him, she fell apart. She had had headaches from the attack, but now they got worse. The tension in her life built, and she became addicted to alcohol to help her through it, even though her father had fought his own addiction, which she despised him for. Loving story with great lessons of faith, learning to put God first and let Him control things. Peter, a young doctor in town, also learns some similar lessons, he and Whitney helping each other, gaining trust in each other instead of trying to do it all alone. As always, a great read to get lost in. You can't go wrong with this series.

Wealth. Society. Greed. Taylor wanted to get away from them and her family. She had grown up camping and hiking with her father, brother and his friend. A girl after my own heart, she went to college and earned a degree in Botany, then went to work at Yellowstone park as a guide. After her father died, her mother pushed her to marry her brother's friend to unite their fortunes. Since she'd learned the true nature of the man, and her mother was unrelentless, Tylor jumped on an opportunity to go to Curry, Alaska to work. She is perfectly suited for the job, but they were expecting a man. If you read the previous book, you're familiar with the family of the Curry Hotel. You wouldn't need to read the other book first, but you'd be glad that you did. They're a group of special people, centered in their faith in God and Jesus in their lives. A great story of self discovery and forgiveness.
