The Homestead Brides Collection 9 Pioneering Couples Risk All for Love and Land

Christian Historical Romance. Wow. What unique stories. A book of substance. The only thing in common between the stories was women who left home to make a new start. Interesting information contained in them, like what it took to make a soddy. Different areas of the country, each with pluses and minuses, each with beauty and danger. Nothing simple about any of the situations. It's easy to become completely immersed in each tale. Special people involved in quite individual lives, using their skills and adapting as needed, each with special people to love. Excellent, deep read.
I received this book free from the publisher and NetGalley book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

The Immigrant Brides Collection

One of the most diverse collections that I've read. English, German, Irish, Scottish, French, Chinese. All with things in their lives to overcome, strengthen their faith, and realize that the journey is better when shared. Discovering the right person to share their struggles and burdens with. Most with issues of unfair discrimination and fitting in. Excellent read. Never boring. Unusual twisting, realistic tales.

Westering Women

Historical Fiction. Starts in February 1852 Chicago, Illinois, the journey ends in September 1852 in California. A wagon train was formed to bring brides to men in California. God fearing, moral men, asking for women who were the same. Many women joined the train, for many different reasons. It brought out the best in them, amazed others with their strength and when they made it - they were famous. The journey wasn't easy, and all had their secrets. Many were lost along the way, some turned back. This tells the story of a few of the core of the group. It's very well told, you feel as though you're travelling with them. I've always been fascinated by wagon train stories, have wondered if I would have made it. I'm pretty resourceful, but these ladies paved the way. They were almost all strangers when they started out, but were sisters by the time they survived the trail. There were many hardships that women faced in those days, and unfair treatment by men was accepted at that time. These women proved they didn't need men, and surprised many. Very good read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

6 Historical Stories of Love that Takes Persuasion
by Rosey Dow; Cathy Marie Hake; Susannah Hayden; Yvonne Lehman; Colleen L. Reece; Janet Spaeth

"Our lives always need to be tended as if they were growing things, because they are, in fact, just that. In silence we can hear the most clearly. We must, however, prepare ourselves for what we might hear."

Christian historical. Quite a reading experience! Simple, complicated, and very deep. All very different stories of women and men put in situations that they didn't plan. Each is special in its own way. Nice long read. None of the stories go too fast or cut off too quickly. Entirely enjoyable. Some authors are new to me. I'm grateful to read their works and be able to add them to my favorites!

A Newspaper Ad for Husbands Brings a Wave of Men to a Small Kansas Town

by Susan Page Davis, Susanne Dietze, Darlene Franklin, Patty Smith Hall, Cynthia Hickey, Carrie Fancett Pagels, Gina Welborn

A collection of Christian Historical Romances – all set in the same town in Kansas, just after the Civil War. Each of the brides in this series of stories is special. The town was full of women who had lost their men during and after the war. They were strong and had shouldered the work for years, but now they decided it was time to bring in some help. I enjoyed getting to know each of them as well as their prospective husbands. Even though the stories revolve around the advertisement for husbands, not all came in from the ads. I found each one to be interesting and engaging.

From  Maryland 1865 just after the civil war to Kentucky 1877 to New York 1898 to Ohio and Colorado1892 to Massachusetts 1892 to Ohio 1877 to Ireland 1877. I never used to really care for collections, mainly because they were too short. If I did feel that way, this is sure to change it, as I am quite endeared to it. Some were new authors to me, some I'd read their books before, now I'm a fan of all.

Usually as I go along I think of what I would like to say in my review, noting things that stand out. This book though, as I was reading I thought - I like this one best. Then I thought the same about the next story. And the next. So, they're all my favorites! The Groom She Thought She'd  Left Behind I couldn't put down and I swear that I held my breath till the end. Then the next story makes you laugh out loud. Misunderstandings and perfect understandings, rejection and acceptance. A girl can change her mind, can't she? I love that there's a Christian message and lessons too. This is a book that I can highly recommend to just about everyone. They are fabulous on their own, fantastic in this collection.
