To Spark A Match by Jen Turano

If you need to buy a gift for someone or for yourself, you cannot go wrong with this book.

Completely entertaining in the mad rush that Jen is known for, as well as a perfectly written romance. Adelaide has the wonderful traits of being unique in the Four Hundred, beautiful without knowing it, a caring heart, brilliant observant mind, and a love for books and cats. She's not afraid to look through it all and enjoy the commonplace, and always lands on her feet, which is fortunate, since she gets into some real mishaps. Handsome Gideon comes to her aid and gets involved, finding she's more competent than he thought and a diamond of first water. Always a treasure, pure joy to read. As your brain takes in every little, quick moving detail, you never know what's going to happen next. Parts where I truly laughed out loud, others that were aw-a-aw sweet. As I always say, cheer up! read a Jen Turano book!

Description

"Turano takes readers on a lighthearted romp through matchmaking season . . . . This is a delight."--Publishers Weekly on A Match in the Making

After five unsuccessful Seasons on the marriage mart, Miss Adelaide Duveen has resigned herself to the notion that she's destined to remain a spinster forever--a rather dismal prospect, but one that will allow her to concentrate on her darling cats and books. However, when she inadvertently stumbles upon Mr. Gideon Abbott engaged in a clandestine activity during a dinner party, Adelaide finds herself thrust into a world of intrigue that resembles the plots in the spy novels she devours.

Former intelligence agent Gideon Abbott feels responsible for Adelaide after society threatens to banish her because of the distraction she caused to save his investigation. Hoping to return the favor, he turns to a good friend--and one of high society's leaders--to take Adelaide in hand and turn her fashionable. When danger surrounds them and Adelaide finds herself a target of the criminals in Gideon's case, the spark of love between them threatens to be quenched for good--along with their lives.

A Match in the Making by Jen Turano

Hold on to your hats! As always one of the most hilarious books you'll read.  And so, so touching, heartrending, full of wisdom. We don't always realize the path we take is sending us in exactly the right direction. Gwendolyn needs a break from travelling and being a companion for her cousin, so she decides to be an assistant matchmaker in a resort area where the 400 go. She's pushed to find matches for society people that she doesn't like and who shun her, even though her family is as good as theirs. She's not doing it for the money. She meets a lot of people - you may need to keep a pad and pencil nearby to keep them all straight by the way. She always sees right through situations and knows exactly the right thing to do and say to straighten others out. Jen's typical madcap story that will keep you riveted to the wonderfully satisfying end. The chaos may not let you relax, but you'll surely get completely lost in it!! Another keeper.

Diamond in the Rough by Jen Turano

"Everyone at the table seemed to hold their breath as the snail continued its flight right before it smacked some poor gentleman in the back of the head. Splatters of snail flew from the shell, gasps rang out from numerous guests, and then utter silence descended."

Marvelous mayhem. As I always say, cheer up, read a Jen Turano book! Certainly one of the best authors ever.

1885. Perfectly capable Poppy leaves her parents horse farm to spend a Season with her socially fashionable Grandmother of the Four Hundred. A Grandmother determined that Poppy will be considered a Diamond of the first water. Her Propensity for mishaps will of course keep you in stitches, rolling on the floor laughing, then in awww for the sweetness and heart of these characters.
Reginald is there from England to help his cousin find a suitable bride. He is conscripted by Poppy's Grandmother to teach Poppy how to behave properly in society,  something very necessary for her to be considered as a bride in England's Social circles. Sweet people struggling to make their way, and never a dull moment with Poppy around. She can ride, run and shoot em up with the best. Not valuable traits to those in Society. But maybe its time for Society's rules to change. Poppy has her own kind of influence. As always, an excellent read!

From  Maryland 1865 just after the civil war to Kentucky 1877 to New York 1898 to Ohio and Colorado1892 to Massachusetts 1892 to Ohio 1877 to Ireland 1877. I never used to really care for collections, mainly because they were too short. If I did feel that way, this is sure to change it, as I am quite endeared to it. Some were new authors to me, some I'd read their books before, now I'm a fan of all.

Usually as I go along I think of what I would like to say in my review, noting things that stand out. This book though, as I was reading I thought - I like this one best. Then I thought the same about the next story. And the next. So, they're all my favorites! The Groom She Thought She'd  Left Behind I couldn't put down and I swear that I held my breath till the end. Then the next story makes you laugh out loud. Misunderstandings and perfect understandings, rejection and acceptance. A girl can change her mind, can't she? I love that there's a Christian message and lessons too. This is a book that I can highly recommend to just about everyone. They are fabulous on their own, fantastic in this collection.

Wingbound by Heather Trim

Wow, what a great book! An easy-to-get-lost-in science fantasy that keeps you on edge to the very end and leaves you wanting more of the story. Heather has created an interesting world, in some ways similar to ours, but with some twists. Like a floating island called Ellery that comes by once a year. It’s floating very high in the air with the clouds, and its inhabitants have big beautiful wings. Unfortunately, they use those wings to fly down and take food from Ledger’s village during the harvest, and it’s a war that lasts as long as the island is overhead.

When Ledger is 10 he sneaks out during the war, just to get a look at the Ellerians. While hiding he meets a girl who flew down from Ellery with the same idea. Her name is Alouette and Ledger finds her beautiful and fascinating. For several years they continue their yearly meeting until one year the Ellerians didn’t fly down as the island floats over. Ledger is a blacksmith and quite an inventor and has been trying to find a way to fly up to Ellery. Concerned for Alouette, he goes against the Elders wishes and tries his latest invention, but doesn’t count on the company of his brother and three friends. Thus starts an adventure that goes deeper into this interesting world. Heather describes it in a way that lays it out in front of you in beauty and depth, yet it’s not so complicated that you have to struggle to remember details that would take you away from the story being told.

From the beginning this book keeps you engaged every second, and it’s hard to put down. Oh yes, and there are dragons too. The only disadvantage of reading the first book in a new series is having to wait for the next one. But then the biggest advantage of reading a book in a series is that there will be more!

From the Publisher:
Ledger is supposed to fear and despise the Sky People of Ellery. When an Ellerian girl named Alouette with beautiful, white wings sneaks into his village, everything changes. With his village at war with the winged people who live on the floating island that circles their world, he does the unthinkable: he befriends her. In Ledger’s seventeenth harvest, Ellery returns empty. The Sky People are gone, Alouette is missing, and Ledger must make a difficult choice—continue life as usual in the blacksmith workshop or board the island against the elders’ wishes and find her From debut author Heather Trim comes a vibrant fantasy where following the rules isn’t always the right thing to do when you were born to be the exception.
