Destined for You by Tracie Peterson

1869 Duluth, Minnesota. Historical Christian
Luke was hired by a railroad magnate to go from Philadelphia to Duluth. From a very wealthy family, he would be going to stay with the brother his father has disinherited because he had married a servant. But the brother and his wife were very happy. They lived next door to a fisherman's family who had hired him to help on their boat. Gloriana was the daughter of the fisherman. This story has a lot of perilous spots that seem to be obvious, but then take a track that is unexpected. Strong messages of faith guide the entire story, revealing God's plans for these people. Some sorrowful, some marvelous and miraculous. The author's talent for bringing characters to life make it a very interesting book. Excellent read. Isn't that a beautiful cover?

Out of the Embers by Amanda Cabot

Christian Historical.  When Eveyln was younger her parents were killed, she was hiding under the bed while the killer was looking for her. She'd been sent to an orphanage and was always afraid to leave, feeling she was being watched whenever she went into town. When she and one of the girls were in town, the orphanage was burned down with everyone in it, so she fled with the girl. Circumstances brought her to a town where she felt at home, and people who were good to her. Changing her name, she started a new life, and came to care for the owner of a horse ranch and his family. Be sure to set aside time as you near the end as you won't want to put it down. The mystery takes a twist and it's fast paced. Excellent read. Looking forward to the next in the series!

Courting Misfortune by Regina Jennings

Christian Historical
It took me a little bit to get into the story, but it picked up momentum and then was hard to put down. I had to know what happened. Calista is on a kidnapping case, undercover, but in a town where much of her family lives. So much had been fabricated for her in order to do the research she needed. Matthew is a preacher who felt called to the same town. He couldn't figure Calista out, but realized she was putting herself in danger. Subtle humor inserts when her cousins come into the scenes. God's plans orchestrate each of their paths, leading to an interesting and unexpected conclusion.

The Lady in Residence by Allison Pittman

Modern day Dini Blackstone is a tour guide on a haunted story tour in San Antonio, near the old site of the Alamo, and also a magician. She's been obsessed with one of the women from that time and her story for years. Then Quinn comes to her tour, with artifacts from his relative who was the detective investigating the old case. Both descendants of these people, they begin their own story of discovery. Good read. Christian.  Goes back and forth from the original characters over 100 years ago to present. Well told and well woven. Although time lapse stories are not my favorite, I was impressed with this one.

Vying for the Viscount by Kristi Ann Hunter

Christian Historical - Cinderella with horses
This is one of the most enjoyable books I've read. I didn't want to put it down. Bianca is raised by a stepmother who doesn't want her around. She goes to a neighboring stable to ride and exercise the horses because she loves them so much. Hudson has inherited the estate, arriving from India where he was raised. He doesn't know anyone, but as a member of aristocracy is expected to blend in and advance himself and his estate. Luckily he makes some good friends. Beautiful story unfolds of self discovery and learning what is important in life. Some of the most likable and alive characters you will meet. Loved It! Fabulous series.

But it was all over now and he was trying to take on repaying all of the debt of what the gang had stolen. He is a good man, but is having a hard time believing he is worthy of friends. Laura is having a hard time that she was responsible for shattering Aaron's leg. They both have a lot to work through, and the story is well told. They both have strong faith to help them through danger and injuries. Excellent read. 3D characters that warm your heart.

Where Dandelions Bloom by Tara Johnson

This would make a fabulous mini series. There's so much to this story, and much is based on the life of a real woman who served in the civil war, without revealing that she was a woman. She performed so many tasks, and was excellent at it. Chosen because she was excellent for many duties, trusted and respected. Gabe is a Scot who raised himself up from the slums of N.Y. and became a photographer in the war. Their story winds through many paths, lined with faith. They both came from nothing and were important to the war. They have a bit in common, and were drawn to each other as friends right away. Excellent read, both learning to believe in themselves and each other and to have faith while working through the struggle of war. A get lost in in it book with never a dull moment.
