Little Dove (Wingbound Series) by Heather Trim

Novella that is a prequel to the Wingbound Series. It tells the story of Paloma/Huyana, where she came from and how the people in the stories got started and why. As a very young girl she is rejected by her family and sent away, she learns how to survive under less than ideal circumstances. She's got pluck though, and fights her way back to where her mother once left her. She meets wonderful people in a small village, forging new relationships and eventually learning more about her own family and what happened to them. She grows and heals, finding a way for herself, and for her people. Of course, it's an excellent read and keeps you hooked. Love this series! Make the great escape and pick up this book.

A Castaway in Cornwall by Julie Klassen

1813 North Cornwall, England

Laura was orphaned as a young girl, sent to live with her aunt, who also died. She was loved by her Uncle, but when he remarried she became unwanted. She had a habit of going down by the sea, looking for items that washed ashore from shipwrecks, which were common there. She was on shore when a shipwreck happened and witnessed a man washed up on shore, all other passengers lost. She protected him and had him brought to her neighbors house where she helped nurse him back to health. The story unfolds from there for both Laura and Alexander, their backgrounds and family stories interestingly told, and neither of them fit in. Danger twists in during this time of war between France and England. The wreckers are also interesting to learn about, adding to the mystery. Intriguing, holds your interest to the very end. Another get lost in story by Julie Klassen.

Runaway River: The Bitterroot Mountains Series by Kim Taylor

1897 Chicago then Hamilton, Montana Christian Historical

The first book in a new series with the promise of good stories to come. Beth, her younger brother Michael and sister Maggie lose their parents suddenly and tragically. Then a predatory man who wanted their property lied to them and scared them so that they ran from town. Towards an opportunity seen in a newspaper ad, that wasn't a viable one when they got to Montana. Desperate for a way to support them all, Beth finds a job with Calamity Jane in her restaurant. Interesting place to start a new life. Also in this story is Ethan - handsome, godly and sturdy of character - getting a start after years of hard work on a new horse ranch of his own. They all struggle with their own issues, ups and downs, with an interesting story that weaves through as they work through their challenges and relationships with God and faith. Riveting. Hard to put down! I can see that there is so much more left to come in the series and can't wait till the next book comes out! (Love that cover.)

The Land Beneath Us by Sarah Sundin

Overcoming obstacles . . . Christian Historical 1944. I'm excited to read this story, back with old friends and learning about the others who had been in the background in the previous books, bringing it all together. This can be read stand alone, but you'll find you want to read the rest. It's easy to become invested in these characters lives. The three brothers have issues that tore them, their family apart. They each join the war effort, under different branches of the service. Their struggles to learn their way in the world on their own after being so close are heart wrenching. Both Clay and Leah, with their backgrounds, need to find their self worth, strengths. He's half Mexican, she's an orphan. Orphans were terribly looked down on at that time. She especially needs to develop courage to step out into the world, other people and groups and find where she fits in. We're all given our own strengths and talents, and she learns that she has a lot to contribute. Expertly told story that weaves these characters lives together, sometimes on bumpy roads. Beautiful story of love as it grows.

Daughters of the Mayflower series

"It takes a lot of people and horses to carry a letter across the country at such a speed.”

1860 Carson Sink station (in modern-day Nevada - the Utah Territory at the time) Christian Historical

Have you ever thought the pony express was interesting? This story makes it real. The wild west and how the mail was delivered at that time come to life. Kimberly is an excellent writer. I've never read anything she wrote and didn't like it.  It won't take you long to get lost in this story.I was hooked in the first few pages. With good reason, Anna fled her wealthy husband with their baby daughter, hoping never to be found. 26 years later many things have changed. Jacqueline's father has never stopped looking for her, this time sending a trusted partner out on a lead to find her. His health has been failing, and he feels he's running out of time. She however was raised by another man, not knowing that he wasn't her father. Intricately woven story of love and family, even when it's messy. Add in danger and intrigue - it will keep you glued. Excellent read!

"But thankfully, God dealt with ugly all the time and loved humanity anyway."

Fabulous book. Could. Not. Put. It. Down.
A very talented author. You get to fully know the lead characters and why they do the things they do. Usually as stories go along I try to think things through for them and try to problem solve for them. Many times it's obvious. With this story you simply feel like there is nothing else that you would have done in their place.

Emma was orphaned as a baby, taken in and raised by her Grandparents. When they both die she discovers that her father is not dead as she had been told. He lives in Canada, so she sells everything her Grandfather had left to her in order to go and find him. This girl burns bridges. She's strongly focused, blind to anything else. Jonathan, who is her best friend, sacrifices everything to help her. But will it ever be enough for her? A great story of making mistakes for love, looking in all the wrong places. Good message of faith. It's interesting that the timeline runs concurrently with the previous book in this series. It's not necessary to read that first, but you'll be glad if you do. Here's hoping for another!

The Orphan's Wish by Melanie Dickerson

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0718074831/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0718074831&linkCode=as2&tag=netg01-20https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-orphans-wish-melanie-dickerson/1127455165?ean=9780718074838https://www.powells.com/book/-9780718074838https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35229027-the-orphan-s-wish?ac=1&from_search=true

A new telling of the story of Aladdin. In the streets of Palestine he is orphaned, saved by a priest from living the life of a thief, and is taken to Germany. He is a stand out - different with his dark skin, hair and eyes - and is forever ashamed by his background. He's constantly trying to prove himself worthy to others.

Aladdin is befriended by one of the Dukes daughters and they become close friends. He is very bright and courageous even when so young. He soon realizes that he must make something of himself if he ever wants a chance to wed Lady Kirstyn, and decides to leave town and try. On his journey out of town he rescues a wealthy merchant who takes him in.

I became quickly wrapped up and enamored with the characters, and looked forward to reading about this new opportunity for Aladdin. It doesn't disappoint. There's danger, success and depth of love as well as much introspection, as both Aladdin and Kirstyn try to find their way through everything. They both come to realize that God has a plan for them and that they are perfect in His sight and wonderfully made.
