He is taken with her right away. Events bring them together as the story develops. He is determined to go West and not fight. Daniel Boone hears about him and asks him to join their group going to Kentucky. So well written! I'd love to read a continuation of the story,!

Among the Poppies by J'nell Ciesielski

Incredibly real story set in WW1, Britain then France. Amazing depth of characters and story woven expertly with realities of war. Gwen is a chauffeur`s daughter. He raised her working on cars and driving. She was also best friends with the daughter of the house. This story is filled with interesting people with very little in common coming together in life and making things work. The girls were involved with the volunteer war efforts, but Gwenn wanted to do more, like drive an ambulance, and see more of the world. Chance meetings with a young soldier that her friend was crazy for and a Dowager Lady putting together an ambulance relief group, changed her life. She got her dream, but became deeply entrenched near enemy lines. Excellent with not one second of a dull moment. Many times that pull your heart strings and you feel the good, anguish and everything in between. Read this!

Excellent read. Revolutionary war. Abigail's father died, and her Uncle showed up at their house. He was a soldier in the English army. He forced her to come to their hospital tents and help with the wounded, telling them she was married so that it wouldn't be improper for her to be there. She fell in love with one of the patients and vice versa. Well told love story where there shouldn't have been one, amidst the horrors of war. A Loyalist medic also wanted her, but he didn't behave as honorably. 200 years later in Saratoga, at a reenactment, their ancestors meet and their lives intertwine.

Storing Up Trouble by Jen Turano

Jen Turano books are always special. Better than the best dessert and made to be savored. You need to read them slowly to savor such specialness and not miss a word. Both hilariously funny and heart string lovely. The uniqueness that each person brings to a mix of people, making life better for each with their contribution. Throw in some underprivileged people, both wealthy and not, who need lessons to better themselves and knock the socks off society people. Throw in some danger, clumsiness and learning to love. Never a straight path, but always the path God intended. Nothing less than fabulous!

Caroline is the Major's daughter, recently back at the fort after living in society for awhile. The government gave away land to a first come, first served group after the sound of a gunshot and a race to claim. Always independent, she intended to get a plot of land for herself, as women were allowed. But she hadn't ever done any of the hard work it takes to develop a piece of land or even fend for herself with out a servant. Frisco had been a crush of hers. A bit of a character at the fort, he had tried for years to enable settlers to get land there, and because of his efforts this was coming about. He even had his place all picked out, a town planned, crops planted and his things stored on a lot. All he had to do was get there before anyone else did. He never expected Caroline to claim his spot. An orphan who had several brushes with the law, he had become a lawyer. But he had always wanted a real home of his own, and this was a chance for his dream. Excellent place to spend your time and feel your heart strings. Christian Historical.

I was so glad to return to the Bride Ship Series. These girls enter your heart and you want only the best for them. You don't need to read the first book in the series before this, but you'll want to. In each, the characters search for God’s purposes and plans for them, and find strength in His courage. And they're thoroughly entertaining, keeping you engaged and holding your breath to the end. This story is about Arabella, a wealthy girl who had good reason to run away from her betrothed and go on a Bride Ship to seek a new opportunity on Vancouver Island, where men far outnumbered women. Pete was a baker there, with a love for the native population in the area. He battled the injustice of the English navy stationed there, controlling a smallpox outbreak by denying vaccinations to the natives and scattering them, wiping out much of their population. There are always people who see injustice and fight to expose it, but that doesn't mean it's easy. These people struggle to do what is right in God's eyes and persevere.

A Lady's Maid by Jen Geigle Johnson

Very interesting story set in London 1831. Depicts the struggle after Peterloo of the people who were trying to get the vote for poor people and also include women. Fully developed characters let you see into the lives of the Ton and their servants. These main characters are of the best, show how each individual's contributions are important to the whole, and the courage it takes to continue when what you see doesn't look like you're doing any good yet you press on. It shines a light on the things that go on through evil but are out of sight. And that love can grow through adversity.

Wingspan by Heather Trim

I have just loved loved loved this series! I get totally involved and "feel" each of the characters. This is a make-believe land, but there are some similarities to our world. The idea that a huge rock is floating in the sky like a cloud and has people living on it is amazing. Not to mention that they have wings. And dragons. Yeah! dragons! They have some needs and conflicts with the people on the ground whose reasons have gotten buried and forgotten over the years, and evolved into a whole new thing. This book brings it all together, uniting generations from each race. Extremely entertaining and get lost in read. Loved it!!
