Tidewater Bride Paperback by Laura Frantz

1634 Christian Historical. Jamestown, Virginia area, during a highly volatile, dangerous period in American early history. As usual Laura Frantz weaves a story that is completely spellbinding and very real. Selah is the daughter of a Cape Merchant, helping him to run his store. The relationship they have with the Native Indians is still at a delicate balance, where it could tip into war easily. At this time an Indian chief suggests a temporary exchange of children to learn each other's ways and promote better relationships. Xander had been married to the Chief's daughter, now widowed and raising her son. A deep telling of this time, where problems within the English settlement are as dangerous as the Indian situation, and tensions run high. There is also a deep appreciation of the beauty, bounty and possibilities of the area. Thoroughly engrossing!

A very pleasant read set in 1888 Colorado. Christian Historical. A Madame in town started a secret plan where she sheltered very young girls who were brought to her to be prostitutes.  She hid them away, with another team taking over, then later another taking them a few at a time by train to a school and hopefully good jobs. Since this was not a popular happenstance for the people who originally took the girls to be sold over, this group had to be vigilant so that the girls wouldn't be found. The transportation of the girls was difficult.

Colette and Jacob are two young people with the common trait of being a bit impulsive.  They are given the chance to escort three young ladies on this secret and risky last step of the journey. Collette is a generous girl from a wealthy family whose heart is in the right place, but her choices aren't always for the best. Her parents feel this trip will help her to look at life from a different perspective. And it does. Not everything goes as planned on this journey. Jacob goes along on the trip to protect the girls. Both he and Collette learn more about themselves on the trip than they expected, getting close to one another quickly. They make a good team. Interesting twists and turns in this journey keep you turning the pages.

How long can you hold your breath?

This is one that I didn’t want to end, even though it had some really tense chapters. Fabulous Christian historical mystery with touching, endearing characters. Lucy Drake is a telegrapher with the AP whose Grandfather was an inventor.  He allowed his brother to market and sell one of his inventions while he was away at war, but when he came back he found that he didn’t have a share in the money or company. Lucy’s family has been involved in a lawsuit to regain their share in the company. Even though she and her brother have been threatened for years, they have no idea the lengths that their Uncle and cousin are willing to go to.  They meet Sir Colin Beckwith, who works for Reuters, and they would never guess the value his connection will be to them. You won’t want to put this down as Lucy dives further and further into the legal fight, and eventually a fight for her life and that of a high-ranking political figure as well. Lots of depth to this story! Very interesting characters and background that will keep you involved right to the end.

From the Publisher:
Page-Turning Romance and Intrigue in Award-Winning Author's Next Historical Novel

Lucy Drake's mastery of Morse code has made her a valuable asset to the American news agencies as a telegrapher. But the sudden arrival of Sir Colin Beckwith at rival British news agency Reuters puts her hard-earned livelihood at risk. Newly arrived from London, Colin is talented, handsome, and insufferably charming.

Despite their rivalry, Lucy realizes Colin's connections could be just what her family needs to turn the tide of their long legal battle over the fortune they were swindled out of forty years ago. When she negotiates an unlikely alliance with him, neither of them realizes how far the web of treachery they're wading into will take them.
