Stars of Twilight Fair by K. Lyn Smith

“Presumptuous questions are the best sort, Mr. Corbyn, followed closely by impertinent ones.”

Poetry. Sweetly, beautifully told story with characters you truly have to love. Dilemmas of inheritance and peerage combined with a scandal present obstacles for them to overcome. Makes your soul sing!

I received this book free from the author and publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

The Beekeeper’s War by Deborah Carr

I was a little disappointed that beekeeping wasn't a big feature in the story but fell in love with Pru and Jack right away, as well as their friends. An intricate inter-twinning of people who are forced to live different lives when WW1 was going on. A time when my Grandparents were alive. They were precious to me, so it's nice to see how others lived at that time. Pru was a nurse, working in a mansion that had been converted into a hospital. She was friends with another nurse, who fell for a patient who was the son of the owners of the mansion. Then entered Jack, the handsome American who had saved lives, stopping to see his best friend. Get caught up in the romance and heart wrenching pain of the war, and how people coped. It's also interesting to meet Emma and Sam, children of the friends, at the beginning of WW2 and how that affected them all. Excellent read, hard to put down, full of love.

Driving Miss Darling

Now that's a romance! Alfie is quite swoon worthy, and his 7 brothers are too. All living in a small town with many more bachelors than ladies. And that's what brought Miss Darling there ... sort of. Get this book and read the why, where and how of it. And be ready to sigh.
Clean romance.

Frances Finkel and the Passenger Pigeon

This book is a gem. A story with positive things that happen with the main character. Not that Fran doesn't have her bumps along the way. It's an interesting story of the history of women pilots and pigeoneers as well. Beautifully told story of a girl who grew up in Oregon helping her father fix planes, test them and train others to be pilots.  She had more experience than most entering the war in flying, with the bonus of being a mechanic. She had wanted to help in the war effort and couldn't understand why, if she had these talents, she couldn't use them because she was female. Then she saw a magazine article about a debutant who had gotten her pilot license and was ferrying planes. Fran's journey is an interesting one, with special people along the way to learn about as well. Adventures, love, loss, romance, travel, new professional lessons and highs. Excellent read.

The Physician's Dilemma

1819 London. Charlie has been her father's assistant for years, with a photographic memory for every medical journal that she has read. She was an excellent physician, but wasn't able to practice because she was a female. When her father retires, that's the end of her being able to practice with him. When she goes to London to visit her sister she runs into Dr Julian Grey, a former apprentice of her father's, and seeks to work in the orphanage that he oversees. Very interesting story unfolds as they deal with the prejudice of society and with the medical profession at the time where women are concerned. Good people as supporting friends and family deepen the story. Characters you have to love. Hard to put down.

The Astronomer's Obsession by K. Lyn Smith

Sweet, clean romance set in the early 1800s. Interesting read. In the early days many astronomers were “gentleman” astronomers rather than professionals. Celeste's father is one of those wealthy gentlemen. She has grown up supporting her father's passion for astronomy. She has had a crush on Harry since they were kids, when he came home from school with their neighbor. Harry was not from gentry however. Celeste's father takes an interest in him when he shows a strong interest in astronomy, and paid for his schooling in secret. Intriguing story as her father builds a huge new telescope, and things begin to happen, in hearts - and dangerously with the telescope. Tension builds, and it keeps you intrigued to the end. Excellent read. Looking forward to the next one!

The Work Of Art by Mimi Matthews

Very well written. Keeps you emotionally on edge right to the end. Sweet, clean romance.
Philly is an orphaned young lady, put under the mercenary care of the male heir who inherited her Grandfather's estate. She was forced to go to London, only allowed to take her dogs, where she was to be presented. She meets a veteran of war who had been wounded, and also came under the attention of a powerful, wealthy Duke called The Collector. She had two different color eyes and was beautiful, getting her the nickname of the work of art. The Duke was ruthless in acquiring what he wanted - unusual things - like Philly. Slow tones of romance with building danger keep you engaged, making it hard to put down. It only takes a short time to feel for this damsel in distress and wish only for her simple happiness. She's strong, capable and practical, seeing the heart of every situation,  animal and man.
