The Art of Deception by Cara Putman

Oh, this is too good. One has to be able to put it down. Get some sleep. I'm normally a historical fiction person so I took a chance to take this one. Boy I'm glad that I did. What a great spy suspense novel! Can't wait for the next one!  Marie is really Charlotte, an artist hiding out in America from a crime family that she got tangled up with in Italy, using art for money laundering. Marie can paint like the classic painters so is very valuable to them. Even though she loved painting, she gave it up and fled to care for her son, but they found her. She works with Thayer who does work on the side for the FBI. Three-D characters to get wrapped up in. Twisty and turny, just right. I read the ARC from Cara which is part of the full book of four stories under the title Come What May.

The Swindler's Daughter by Stephenia H. McGee

I didn't want this one to end. I thought at first it was going to be just a sweet story, but as it unfolded I got thoroughly attached to the characters with more layers and mystery to uncover. Well done! Great faith lessons and life lessons for a society girl who learns to love small town living and family.

The Blind trailer

"When things get tough that's what you do, you fight. "
This looks like it will be a FABULOUS movie. We've seen what Phil Robertson and his family are like in their TV show, and where they are in life, now you can see how far they've come. I'm sure it's a strong message of faith and redemption. It has to be good.

Sapphires in Montana? Are you sure?

When I was brainstorming ideas for my new series, I knew I wanted the stories to be set on a ranch amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Montana mountains. But I wanted something a little more unusual than that. I know, what could be more special than a ranch in the Rockies?

So I brought the conundrum to some writer friends and asked for help brainstorming. There’s nothing quite so fascinating as a group of writers in full brainstorming mode. Since the series is set during the mining boom in Montana, we discussed the idea of some kind of mine on the ranch, but not gold or silver. Or even copper. The remarkable Sarah Erredge (who writes as S.E. Warren) suggested Sapphires.

That thought immediately grabbed hold of me (especially since the Sapphire is the birthstone for my month of September). But I’d never heard of Sapphires being discovered in Montana. That seemed impossible… Right?

Until some quick research showed there are three well-known pockets of Sapphires in the state! Rock Creek is one of those locations and is positioned perfectly for where I wanted to set my story—west of Helena and about a half day’s ride from the Mullan Road.

The timing of Sapphire discoveries in the state is perfect for my series as well. Early prospectors searching for gold in the gravel of the Missouri River repeatedly discarded the annoying blue pebbles that continually clogged their sluices without much thought to what they may be. It wasn’t discovered that these “pebbles” were Sapphires until 1895 when a man named Ed Coulter forwarded samples of these stones to Tiffany & Co. When Tiffany purchased the lot for $3,750 (approximately $110,300 as of 2018) and declared that the stones were “sapphires of unusual quality,” a small-scale sapphire rush began.

This rush is exactly what the Coulter brothers in the Brothers of Sapphire Ranch series are trying to avoid. That’s why they keep the Sapphire mine on their property secret during this first book in the series, Healing the Mountain Man’s Heart.

I pray you love book 1 in this new series and fall as deeply in love with this ranch in the Rockies as I have, especially with the Brothers of Sapphire Ranch.

Blessings!

Misty

The Wessex Turncoat by Michael E Wills

A personification of history. Aaron is a young man, a good kid, who when he travels alone to a nearby city is treated to a very rough deal, changing his life. He is basically shanghaied into the British army and put on a boat to fight in Canada and America during the revolutionary war. Very detailed historical tale yet told from Aaron's personal view, making it easy to understand and envision. Men and women readers alike have to love this kid. You easily become attached and want only the best for him, although he has a rough life and it's rarely easy for him. From a British perspective, but fair to both sides. Interesting ending makes you want to know more. Good long read. 99.9% clean read.
